심령현상이라는 불분명하며 불확실한 현상은 어디서부터 시작되었을까. 저의 작품 속 심령현상이란 단순히 유령과 같은 비과학적인 존재에 기인한 것이 아닌 과거가 현재에 오버랩(overlap)되면서 발생하는 것입니다. 과거와 현재는 완전히 단절된 시간이 아닙니다. ‘현재’는 수많은 과거가 쌓여서 만들어 진 것으로 무수한 과거가 존재했기 때문에 지금 이 순간이 있는 것이고, 시간에 따라 과거로 흘러가게 될 것입니다. 즉 우리가 존재하고 있는 현재에는 언제나 과거가 함께하고 있으며, 우리의 일상은 수많은 지나간 존재들 위에서 만들어지고 있습니다. 저는 실제적인 사물이나 우리가 직접 육안으로 확인이 가능한 것들이 아닌 불명확하고 모호한 흔적들을 심령현상과 엮어 이미지화 하고 더 나아가 이러한 흔적들을 더듬어가며 우리는 과거-현재-미래라는 서로 순환하며 시작과 앞이 없는 시간 속에서 살아가고 있다는 것을 보여주고자 합니다.

Where did the ambiguous and uncertain phenomenon of the paranormal begin? In my works, the paranormal is not merely attributed to unscientific entities like ghosts but arises from the overlap of the past and the present. The past and present are not completely disconnected times. The 'present' is built upon countless pasts; the existence of innumerable past moments has created this very moment, and in time, it will flow into the past. In other words, the past always coexists with the present in which we exist, and our daily lives are constructed upon countless bygone existences. I aim to visualize the paranormal by linking it to unclear and ambiguous traces rather than tangible objects or things we can directly see with the naked eye. By tracing these traces, I want to show that we live in a time that is cyclical, with no clear beginning or end, encompassing the past, present, and future.

그들도 존재하고 있다, 인파 시리즈는 전통 판화기법을 따른 작업들로 종이 위에 이미지를 제작되었습니다. 이번 작업은 시간의 연속성에 관한 이야기는 이어가되 다른 구도를 보여주며, 다른 기법과 접목하고자 하였습니다.

"They Also Exist, The Crowd Series" follows traditional printmaking techniques, with images created on paper. This work continues the narrative on the continuity of time, but aims to present different compositions and integrate other techniques.

Q : 작가님의 작업에서 판화가 갖는 의미는 무엇인가요?

판화는 저의 시리즈 작업에 큰 영향을 주었습니다. 레이어(판)을 겹쳐 만드는 판화기법에서 영감을 받아 과거,현재 그리고 미래가 서로 겹쳐지는 시간의 연속성을 작업 주제로 채택하게 되었습니다. 판화는 제 작업의 시작이자 원점입니다.

Printmaking has greatly influenced my series of works. Inspired by the printmaking technique of layering plates, I adopted the continuity of time—where the past, present, and future overlap—as the theme of my work. Printmaking is both the beginning and the origin of my art.

Q : 앞으로 시도하고자 하는 작업의 방향은 무엇인가요?

A :

평면, 입체, 영상 등 여러 작업 방식을 도전했던 과거와는 달리 최근 작업들은 평면에 치중되어 있습니다. 계속 이어진 작업에 대한 고민과 압박감이 저를 위축되게 만든 것 같습니다. 앞으로의 작업은 좀 더 다양하고 자유롭게 자신을 확장하는 것에 집중할 것입니다.

Unlike my past works, which explored various methods such as flat, three-dimensional, and video art, my recent works have been focused on flat surfaces. The ongoing concerns and pressure about my work have made me feel constrained. Moving forward, I will focus on expanding myself more diversely and freely in my artistic endeavors.
